  2. A Washington man pleaded no contest to murdering his estranged wife in Santa Clarita Monday. But his sentence was criticized by the judge as too lenient. Superior Court Judge Cynthia L. Ulfig noted that James Matthew Dorsey "will have the possibility of being paroled in the future" as a result of the policies of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon, who has barred prosecutors in his office from filing special circumstance allegations in new cases that could result in sentences of death or life in prison without the possibility of parole. "Obviously the feeling of the family members here, as well as this court, is that he should remain in prison for the rest of his life," the judge said. (More on Patch).
  3. Co-founder of La Brea Bakery and Campanile, Mark Peel left an indelible mark on the Los Angeles restaurant scene. Peel a two-time guest on "Top Chef" died at 66 (More on Patch).
  4. Long Beach will buzz with the sound of race cars once again! Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will be held in September this year, pushed back by the pandemic. It'll be the first time the Grand Prix has been held in September since the event's inaugural Formula 5000 race in 1975 (More on Patch).
  5. A Bel Air family survived a nightmare recently when a transient broke into their home, and they were forced to watch on their security camera feed as he choked and bludgeoned their family pets (More on Patch).
