Nathan Dulley + LBB on Tips for Traveling Alone

Nathan Dulley shares his opinion on traveling alone.

Traveling alone is something that most people enjoy doing! There are many pros to it, like you get what you want, and you can do what you want without having to ask your fellow travelers for their opinions on your plans. You can connect with people in the destinations you travel too if you would like, or you can completely do the whole experience alone, either way; there are things you need to know before embarking on your first solo travel experience.

Before you Leave

Make sure you save up enough money to have a successful trip from start to finish. You do not want to run out of money while away because you will not have anyone to bail you out or lend you a hand for dinner. Know your budget and what you can afford and then choose a destination that can give you exactly what you want. There are many places in this world you can travel without breaking the bank.

Make sure you know how to stay in touch with your friends and family before you leave, also. This is extremely important due to traveling alone, you will need someone that can check up on you occasionally and make sure things are going smoothly. Traveling alone can be frightening sometimes, so having a means of communication is important.

Adapt to Your Destination
When you first arrive, you will want to see and do everything in sight but it’s important to be patient and plan things out. Take your time to relax and plan what you are going to do with your time there. Be proactive in what you want to happen while you are there. If you are unsure of what your destination has to offer, ask someone for guidance. It is no fun if you stand around looking gazed and lost, you want to be able to jump in and enjoy your destination before it is time to leave. Lastly, stay low-key; do not flash money or jewelry around putting yourself in danger. Just like you would not do that in your home country, it is not beneficial for solo travels to do it while away either.

Lastly, travel alone and not lonely. It is okay to meet people, smile, stay at places that encourage talking and getting to know others and learning a few words! This will make your trip all worth it, and who knows, you may even meet a lifelong friend on this journey.
