1. The Golden State (5) Freeway went bananas Wednesday when a big rig carrying 80,000 pounds of the fruit caught fire, shutting several lanes for hours in Boyle Heights. It was one of two big rig mishaps that brought Los Angeles freeways to a prolonged halt Wednesday. (Los Angeles Patch)
2. Nineteen Ventura Boulevard businesses were vandalized in a BB gun shooting spree Wednesday. It's the second time in less than a year that someone shot up the storefronts of of San Fernando Valley businesses. (Los Angeles Patch)
