The holiday weekend is over, and Los Angeles is already making some wild headlines with a teen taking on a mama bear and a plane landing on the 101 Freeway.

- Los Angeles is mourning today after a firefighter shot and killed a co-worker and critically wounded a fire captain in an attack at Los Angeles County Fire Station 81 in Santa Clarita. He then killed himself and burnt down his house in a standoff with police at his home in nearby Acton (More on Patch).
- Authorities are investigating to determine what forced a small plane to make an emergency landing on the southbound Ventura (101) Freeway in Westlake Village, Monday night. Video shows the pilot safely landing amid a sea of fast-moving cars (More on Patch).
- Freeway construction is going to shut down the Golden State (5) Freeway overnight for the next few weeks. Drivers are being urged to take the San Diego (405) Freeway instead (More on Patch).
- The beautiful peacocks are, once again, making some ugly noises and leaving even uglier messes in Rancho Palos Verdes, prompting city leaders to examine options for dealing with the pesky feathered friends (More on Patch).
- What's to become of the Queen Mary? The legendary ship is apparently in danger of sinking, and the price tag for saving her is more than anyone has been willing to pony up. Though many have swept in with big plans for the ship, she's been allowed to decay to the point where she could be under water in two years (Hayley Smith has more on the Los Angeles Times).
