Police Chase Ends In Fiery Crash Killing Bystander

A sedan being chased by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department in the Fairfax District slammed into an SUV killing that driver.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A police chase ended in a fiery crash that killed a bystander Tuesday night in the Fairfax district.

The suspect in the crash was in custody Monday morning on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a deputy, according to CBS2. A Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy was chasing a silver sedan near Fairfax Avenue and Third Street at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when the sedan crashed into a blue SUV, killing the driver, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Video from the scene showed the SUV on a sidewalk, pinned between a tree and a building, as firefighters attempted to free the driver from the wreckage and deputies arrested the suspect.

The bystander died at the scene, and paramedics transported the driver of the vehicle being pursued to a nearby hospital, according to Prange.
