Police Shoot Knife-Wielding Suspect In Valley Village

Responding to a report of a man with a knife in Valley Village, police shot the suspect who then fell from a balcony to the sidewalk below.

VALLEY VILLAGE, CA — Los Angeles police shot a man who was allegedly wielding knife in the Valley Village area of Los Angeles early Friday morning.

The man has been hospitalized in stable condition. According to Fox11, officers found the suspect on a sidewalk after he apparently fell from a balcony after police shot him. He was still holding a knife. The shooting occurred in the 5200 block of Whitsett Avenue at about 2:30 a.m.

"Officers responded to a call of a man armed (with) a knife," police said in a statement. "When they encountered the man, they used less lethal munitions which were not effective (and) an OIS (officer-involved shooting) occurred. The man was struck by gunfire (and) taken to a local hospital where he is in stable condition."

No other injuries were reported, police said. Authorities did not release additional details about what prompted the call to police.
