- Ricky?s Fish Tacos used to be a popular site on Riverside Drive. On Friday, the operator announced it is ?temporarily no longer able to open to the public.? The food truck still accepts catering jobs. ?I have nothing but gratefulness to all our patrons for making my product the best in L.A. Will miss you and hope to see you again soon.? - Did you get caught up in the ?Pico-Union, Westlake, and Filipinotown districts? street blessing scam? The LAPD announced Saturday that two people are under arrest, and they are now looking for more victims. The MO was to ?request to bless the victim's jewelry or money, then make off with the stolen property.? (Newsbreak)
- Last week, the county?s Board of Supervisors took the next step to change the criminal justice system. The Board now searches for facilities that ?are most effective for the healing and rehabilitation of youth.? It is called the ?Care First, Jail Last? initiative. L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva calls it ?defundment in disguise.? ?The AFSCME Local 685 union, hopes the county will give its members ?first dibs? on jobs within the new department.? (Davis Vanguard)
- We learned Sunday that Nebraska Rep. Jeff Fortenberry has resigned from Congress ?following his conviction in Los Angeles on federal charges of concealing information and lying during an investigation into illegal campaign contributions.? The nine-term congressman ?was convicted Thursday of one count of scheming to falsify and conceal material facts and two counts of making false statements to federal investigators.? He will be sentenced on June 28. (2 Urban Girls)
