Santa Ana Winds Take The Southland: See Top Wind Speeds
From Los Angeles to Riverside County, gusty Santa Ana winds picked up high speeds, jostling trees and elevating fire danger.
LOS ANGELES, CA — Intense, Santa Ana winds pummeled much of Southern California Sunday. The National Weather Service issued several wind advisories and warned of elevated fire danger as humidity levels remained low.
One fire did char several acres early Sunday morning in Malibu, but fortunately, firefighters were able to stop its forward progress by 6 a.m. and reopen Malibu Canyon Road by 9 a.m.
Meanwhile, wind speeds topped 83 mph at Marshal Peak in the San Bernardino County mountains on Sunday. Some mountainous areas of Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange counties saw wind speeds over 50 mph.

Wind advisories issued by the National Weather Service were in effect through 10 p.m. Saturday in the mountains and the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys, until noon Sunday in the San Gabriel Valley, and until 3 p.m. Sunday in coastal Orange and Los Angeles counties and downtown LA. Wind advisories were also in effect until 3 p.m. for portions of San Diego County.
Forecasters warned that the strong winds could blow down trees and power lines. Motorists, especially in high-profile vehicles were urged to take caution, especially along I-5 and Highways 14 and 126 in LA County.
