Scam Alert: Callers Impersonate Long Beach Police Officers
Long Beach police are warning residents not to fall for a scam in which the caller impersonates police officers seeking money.
LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach residents should be on guard against a phone scam in which the callers impersonate Long Beach police officers seeking to collect money to remove supposed criminal charges.
An officer accepting money in exchange for removing criminal charges could be considered an illegal bribe. It's not something the department would do, officials said.
"The #LBPD will never ask for money to clear charges," the Long Beach Police Department tweeted Saturday.
