SigAlert: Overturned Big Rig Blocks 605 Freeway for Hours

A big rig carrying 50,000 pounds of cargo overturned, blocking the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway​ and the 5 Freeway transition.

SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA — A big rig carrying about 50,000 pounds of cargo overturned on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Wednesday morning blocking all northbound lanes of the freeway as well as the transition to the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway.

The big rig crashed in Santa Fe Springs at about 11 a.m. The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 11:13 a.m., and it remains unclear when the freeway will reopen.

The truck landed with its trailer landing on its side, and part of the trailer had also fallen down an embankment, the CHP reported.

The Studebaker onramp was reopened about 1:15 p.m., according to the CHP. Caltrans reported about 4:45 p.m. that the big rig had been removed and all lanes and connectors were reopened.

There's no word yet on any injuries.
