SigAlert: Police Activity Shuts Down 5 Freeway In Commerce

Traffic was diverted to the San Gabriel (605) and Long Beach (710) freeways Wednesday, as authorities worked to save a jumper.

COMMERCE, CA — All lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway in Commerce were shut down for hours Wednesday as authorities worked to talk down a jumper. In the end, they were able to take the person safely into custody.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shortly before 11 a.m. All lanes of the freeway in both directions were blocked near Atlantic Boulevard until shortly before 1:30 p.m. Traffic was diverted off the freeway, and commuters were advised to avoid the area.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Special Enforcement Bureau Crisis Negotiation Team persuaded the person down from atop a railroad crossing over the freeway and to seek help.
