SigAlert: A Truckload Of Spilled Milk Shuts Down 5 Freeway

An overturned big rig spilled milk across the freeway, shutting down all southbound lanes on the Golden State (5) Freeway Tuesday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — There's no crying over spilled milk, but on Tuesday morning it likely caused some choice words when an overturned tanker spilled milk across the Golden State (5) Freeway, shutting down all southbound lanes for hours.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the big rig collided with at least one sedan in the Boyle Heights near Main Street at about 6 a.m. The CHP issued a SigAlert, which remained in effect as of 8:38 a.m.

Traffic was backed up while crews worked to clear the scene. Some freeway on-ramps also were closed to limit traffic from entering the area.
