Enjoy the weekend, because next week is going to be hot, hot hot. We're talking 108 degrees in the San Fernando Valley by midweek. With the heat comes an increased risk of wildfires and power outages.

Also, next week there will be a series of blood drives around Los Angeles County to counter the critical shortage caused by the pandemic.

Saturday's Weather Report: Saturday's high is forecast to be 82 with a low of 62, according to the National Weather Service. A steep heat up will continue through the week, peeking Wednesday when a high of 99 is forecast in Downtown Los Angeles.

  1. Culver City police officers helped save an opioid overdose victim using Naloxone to revive him (More on Patch).
  2. Retailers and restaurants are joining the push for herd immunity by offering deals for people who've been vaccinated in Los Angeles County. Also, three more Angelenos won $50,000 Friday in the state's vaccine lottery (More on Patch).
  3. June 15 will be the day for free tacos if you're vaccinated at Los Angeles County area Taco Bells. Will you get one? (More on Patch).
  4. Shark fear is real at Los Angeles County beaches. They call it Galeophobia, but the chances you'll be attacked by a shark while visiting Los Angeles beaches are almost nil. Almost. (More on Patch).
  5. The U.S. Coast Guard called off the search Friday for a 24-year-old man who went overboard from the Catalina Express off the coast of Long Beach. Deckhands saw him go overboard but were unable to help (More on Patch).

Garden Dialogues 2021: Los Angeles, CA, Saturday, 2:00 p.m., Los Angeles, The Goldman House

  • Join Pamela Burton on June 12th at the Goldman House, a recently renovated mid-century modern home designed by Richard Neutra in 1951. Extant landscape drawings by Garrett Eckbo for the property depict a sensitivity to the sloping topography and existing native Coast Live Oak trees.
