Stunt Actor Jordan Cann Displays Talent Across the Board

Actor, director and film producer Jordan Cann utilizes his strong martial arts background in the film, "Street Dreams - Los Angeles."

Jordan Cann is a multidimensional talent in the entertainment industry, transitioning from a dancer for artists such as Ariana Grande and on national commercials; to a stunt actor, who is also actively screenwriting, producing and directing on multiple independent productions. Cann is paving his way to level up even further this year, with a 2021 goal to secure more roles as a stunt actor on major productions.

Cann’s current film, “Street Dreams - Los Angeles” is available on streaming platforms such as Tubi TV and Amazon Prime. Cann describes it as an “action based, drama piece.”
“Street Dreams - Los Angeles” was the first official feature length film produced and released under Cann’s production company, J & S Film Productions. Cann wrote the script and co-directed the production with Romane Simon of Lucky Strike Films. Cann described “Street Dreams - Los Angeles” as his “most challenging film to produce to date.” Stating, “This film came with multiple hurdles to overcome, and we were working on a very limited budget - not to mention that I was carrying that film on my back as the lead character, Elijah Wilkins. All of the hard work was well worth it, especially when we secured global distribution.” The film may now be found on Amazon Prime and YouTube. The script for the sequel, “Street Dreams - Miami” has won “Best Action Film” from “Your Script Produced.” It is in the process of being optioned to resume production in 2022. During a recent interview Cann discussed his work to bring his pilot, “The Elementals,” to production. Cann states, “I wrote “The Elementals'' initially with the intention of making it a short film with a very minimal story line. Initially, this film was being made to showcase martial arts and fight choreography skills of my workout buddies and myself, but due to COVID - 19 it was delayed.” Continuing, “Midway through the pandemic I met Eric Federmen, a producer looking to work as an Executive Producer on a project, so I showed him the script that I had written. He enjoyed the concept, but saw that a more involved storyline was possible, rather than a short film. Specifically, Federman thought it would be great as a pilot for a multiple episode web-series.”

This is when Jordan Cann and Eric Federman went back and expanded “The Elementals” script to turn it into a series, given Federman’s initial suggestion. The series is being produced by Jordan Cann and Aaron Patrick's production company, J & S Film Productions, in conjunction with Federman's production company EMFed Productions, as a true collaboration. Cann and Federman are co-directors on the project. Cann portrays the role of Tuma, a noble fighter from Nigeria. Cann continued, “The character Tuma is inspired by the late Chadwick Boseman. This film will be slightly different from any film that I have produced with such a diverse cast, a sci -fi driven storyline, and we have included heavy visual effects. Concluding, “Think of Dragon Ball Z meets Hunger Games,” states Cann. Cann, also portrays the role of Zachariah Parkinson, an Arizona police officer in the feature film “Noxious 2,” recently released on Tubi TV May, 7th 2021.

Cann has an extensive dance background, which is how he initially showcased his talent in the entertainment industry. Stating, “I officially broke into the industry as a dancer in 2009. Dancing was the perfect catalyst, which helped me to obtain a new level of confidence, where I realized that I can achieve significant success in my life. Working as a dancer has opened many doors for me to experience the entertainment world, and has helped me to form great professional and personal relationships. Ultimately, it was my greatest dream to become a professional dancer, but what I didn’t know at the time, is that this would expose me to more avenues in the industry, such as film making and acting.”

Cann worked on many commercials as a dancer; such as Heineken, Little Caesars, Show Carnival, Nike, and Doritos. He appeared in multiple music videos with artists such as Celine Dion, Ne-Yo, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Britney Spears and Will I Am.

“I have been practicing martial arts from an earlier age than my dance training. I implement my martial arts expertise in most of my films, since the majority that I’ve worked on are action based,” states Cann. Cann does martial arts tutorials on his Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/mrjordancann.

Cann has studied Tae Kwon Do, some Capoeira, boxing, a little bit of Muay Thai, Kung Fu and a lot of Martial Arts Tricking.

According to Wikipedia, “Martial Arts Tricking is a training discipline that combines kicks with flips and twists from martial arts and gymnastics as well as many dance moves and styles from breakdancing. It aims to achieve an aesthetic display of different combinations of "tricks".” Cann describes mostly being “self taught” in Martial Arts, “I was not afforded the privilege of taking steady classes growing up. I respect the belt system, but at the same time I see that it is not always needed to succeed as a martial artist. I saw that when I landed in Hollywood. When I wasn’t dancing I was pursuing stunt and action based roles.”

Cann’s success began by working on student films, and then, as Cann describes, “working my way up to commercials for ATA Martial Arts, and various others, as well as a small stunt role in the film, “Straight Outta Compton.”

Cann recently signed with management company, Wonder Street. Wonder Street represents many action based film actors. Cann states, “I am very happy about my management representation, and looking forward to what the future brings. I had reached out in 2020 in search of new management, and after reviewing my reels and resume, Wonder Street decided to work with me.”

Cann grew up in Hampton, Virginia, and recalls, “Growing up in the military themed town of Hampton, VA you couldn’t expect to have access to premiere talent agents, managers and entertainment education, even though the city is brewing with immense talent, having birthed stars such as Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, and Teddy Riley and the list goes on.” Continuing, “I’d like to one day be able to cultivate and lead talent within the “757” to be successful in their entertainment pursuits. I had to learn and experience navigating through the business from scratch with no real roadmap. I’d like to facilitate some type of program to educate aspiring entertainment industry professionals, so that more opportunities in the industry are available to them.”

Cann’s goals include booking a role as a stunt actor on a Marvel Film. “One of the many great things about Marvel productions, states Cann, is that they give the audience a great
balance of high quality drama, story and action. It is my dream as a stunt actor to act and fully utilize my martial arts background, and to work as talent with a mega
Franchise. I would love to work with the many actors who greatly inspire me such as Wesley Snipes, Tony Jaa, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins and directors like
Antoine Fuqua, Michael Bay and who doesn’t want to work with Spielberg?!” Concluding, “That would be the next level of my hard work and talent, propelling me into the next level of my dreams coming to life. I really don’t have a favorite Marvel film. I love them all. I definitely could see myself in the next "Black Panther 2." That would be an amazing opportunity.”

“I’ve been acting, writing, directing and producing” states Cann, “and I’m not trying to be a “do-it all” type, yet when you’re an indie filmmaker fighting for your dreams, with little to no
budget, you occasionally have to wear a lot of hats. Trust me, it can be a lot wearing a lot of hats simultaneously, yet there is value in that to create more opportunities, where I can build a platform to show my talent and capabilities. Now, I’d like to put a significant focus on securing great roles on major productions as a stunt actor.”

Concluding, “Dance brought me here, martial arts is keeping me here, and I’m ready to work much more as a stunt actor this year and in the future.”
