Too-Slow Driver Triggers Slow-Speed Chase Across SoCal

BALDWIN PARK, CA — In a chase that presumably had the full support of Los Angeles commuters, the California Highway Patrol got a slow driver off the road Wednesday.

The slow-speed chase began on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Baldwin Park Wednesday afternoon in Baldwin Park. California Highway Patrol officers attempted to pull over the driver of an SUV with a trailer attached for allegedly driving too slowly and impeding traffic, CBS2 reported. State law prohibits drivers from impeding the normal flow of traffic by driving too slow or stopping in the roadway.

But the driver failed to yield and a slow-speed chase was on, according to the CHP. The chase mosied along the 10 Freeway and onto the Foothill (210) Freeway through La Verne and into the Inland Empire.

Officers deployed spike strips three times during the pursuit in an attempt to stop the man, but the slow driver was easily able to avoid them.

The man eventually stopped on the freeway in Fontana and surrendered to officers at about 3:10 p.m. — roughly an hour after the chase began. CHP officers took him into custody and cleared his vehicle.

The man's identity was not immediately released.
