Trump Sign Mimicking Hollywood Sign Appears Over Sepulveda Pass

Large letters spelling out T-R-U-M-P were stealthily placed on a hillside overlooking the 405 Freeway on Tuesday morning.

LOS ANGELES, CA — For a few hours Tuesday morning, Los Angeles looked deceptively like Trump country. The letters spelling "Trump" — mimicking the "Hollywood" sign — mysteriously appeared on a Sepulveda Pass hillside overlooking the San Diego (405) Freeway.

It's the second time this week that a Trump supporter stealthily sneaked the president's name into the public sphere in Los Angeles County. The sign was taken down by Caltrans workers by about 9 a.m. after thousands of LA commuters passed by the sign.

Lauren Wonder, chief public information officer for Caltrans, told the Los Angeles Times that the sign was on private property.

For that reason, Wonder said, Caltrans workers "laid it down so it wasn't a visual distraction" but did not completely remove the sign, which was noticed at about 7 a.m.

"This was a life and safety issue because there were concerns about distracted driving," Wonder said.

It was not known who put the sign in place.

The sign did not affect freeway traffic, but it probably didn't bring many smiles to rush hour commuters in a city where more than 71 percent of voters favored Donald Trump's opponent in the last election.

Over the weekend, another Trump supporter hoisted a Trump flag up the flagpole at the Long Beach Police Department, much to the ire of community members. Officials said they did not know who hoisted the flag.
