  1. Los Angeles firefighters lined up along the freeway overnight to salute the body of 44-year-old firefighter Tory Carlon who was slain by his co-worker 45-year-old Jonathan Patrick Tatone, who opened fire at Agua Dulce's Station 81. Investigators on Wednesday hinted at a motive (More on Patch).
  2. Economists at UCLA forecast a booming recovery in California, attributing the stringent pandemic restrictions for a quicker recovery than the nation as a whole. How good is the recovery expected to be? " The best years of economic growth that we’ve had since World War II" (More on Patch).
  3. Talk 1.1 million of your closest neighbors into getting the COVID-19 vaccine, and Los Angeles will reach herd immunity. That's how far away we are from so-called herd immunity. On Wednesday, county health officials estimated it will now take until August to reach the goal because of flagging vaccination rates (More on Patch).
  4. Nordstrom Inc. is looking to fill thousands of positions across California, the company announced Wednesday including openings around Los Angeles County. They offer benefits, an employee discount and matching retirement plans (More on Patch).
  5. The mountains, deserts and valleys around Los Angeles County face an elevated risk of brushfires this week as temperatures climb and humidity plummets, the National Weather Service warned. It's a warning Angelenos can expect to hear a lot in the coming months (More on Patch).
