Verizon Outages Slam SoCal: Cell Phones, Internet Down

Thousands of Verizon customers reported cellphone and internet outages from San Diego to Ventura counties on Tuesday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Thousands of Verizon customers from across Southern California reported major Verizon outages affecting cell phones, internet service, and landlines for several hours Tuesday.

According to Downdetecter.com, the outages hit shortly before noon and were centered in Southern California, affecting customers in the Inland Empire and San Diego, Los Angles, Orange and Ventura counties. As of 9 p.m., some customers were still reporting outages, though many reported their service had been restored.

Verizon officials did not provide a reason for the outage, but said their engineers are aware of the problem and are "working to resolve it as quickly as possible."

"We are experiencing a network issue impacting voice services for some customers in parts of Southern California," the agency told Patch.

They also suggested a workaround that proved useful for some.

"Customers can try placing their device in airplane mode for 30 seconds or restarting their phone if they are impacted and that should fix the issue," said Heidi FlatoCommunications Manager for Verizon.

The company did not immediately provide an estimate for when all service would be returned.
