LOS ANGELES, CA — Four people robbed a couple with a toddler at gunpoint Thursday afternoon in front of dozens of onlookers in Downtown Los Angeles. The robbers struggled with the man, shooting and pistol-whipping him while the woman escaped with her baby.

Los Angeles Police on Friday released security footage of the ordeal in hopes that someone will recognize the assailants.

The robbers pulled up alongside the family near Seventh and Hill streets at about 3:05 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The couple was shopping with their toddler when two men jumped out of a gray Chrysler 300 and held them up at gunpoint.

A struggle ensued, and the robbers shot the 26-year-old father in the arm and pistol-whipped him over the head. According to the LAPD, the 28-year-old mother "ran to safety with her son and was not harmed." A woman can be heard screaming for help in the video footage released by police Friday.

In the video released by police, two of the robbers wrestle with the victim before getting back into the Chrysler, which nearly hits several pedestrians in a crosswalk to speed through an intersection headed westbound on Seventh Street. According to police, the suspects include three men estimated to be about 20-years-old and a female getaway driver. All three men wore hoodies during the attack.
