Viewing Explores the Singular Experience of American Jewish Soldiers in Europe During World War II

In honor of Jewish American Heritage Month, Holocaust Museum LA presents “Inside the Acid-Free Box: American Jewish Liberators of World War II,” Thursday, May 20, at 4 p.m. This virtual viewing of the museum’s archives will explore the singular experience of American Jewish soldiers in Europe during World War II.
Led by Jordanna Gessler, the museum’s vice president of education and exhibits, and Christie Jovanovic, collection manager, the May installment of the exclusive series will offer an in-depth look at the experiences of Jewish GIs through their artifacts, testimonies and documents.
About 550,000 Jewish soldiers were part of the U.S. armed forces’ efforts. The archival collections illustrate the soldiers’ unique perspective as both Jews and Americans and serve as a powerful record of the crimes committed by the Nazis.
