Blue Line Pizza Opens in Downtown Mountain View
Chicago-style deep dish pizza hopes to captivate Silicon Valley palates.
If you've never had memorable pizza, now's your chance.
Blue Line Pizza opened its doors at 146 Castro St. in downtown Mountain View on Thursday, June 27 and so far, they've had a good reception.
"The community has been so welcoming," said Angela Pace, a business partner with Blue Line. "They've been very nice and we are very grateful for them stopping in."
According to Pace—who grew up in Redwood City, lived in Sunnyvale and now resides in Saratoga—opening Blue Line Pizza in Mountain View was a no-brainer.
"We love the area," Pace said and added that they specifically looked at Castro Street. "It's a great developing town and it's had an amazing transformation."
They found the right place on the former location of Mamaya, a short-lived Asian restaurant. And despite a footprint smaller than their Campbell location, Pace and her team managed to make it feel large, airy, but cozy. The pizzeria displays artwork by a San Francisco artist and the tables and benches were made from reclaimed wood.
"We are not a chain and we like having character and personality," Pace said. They even took out the tile ceiling for a more industrial look. "We don't have cookie cutter locations because we like to bring out integrity of place."
One of three under the Blue Line Pizza name in the Bay Area—Burlingame, Campbell and Mountain View—and based off the original in San Francisco named Little Tree, the pizzeria offers deep dish, Chicago-style, cornmeal crust pizza with fresh farm ingredients. Blue Line also offers the same options in a New York-style thin crust with a tasty tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese and natural ingredients.
Don't feel like pizza? They also serve baked chicken wings with a special spicy rub.
Blue line offers free wifi and has two televisions above the bar. It has a kids menu and a magnetic doodle pad to keep smaller children entertained.
For people on the go, Blue Line has curbside pick-up on Wild Cherry Lane of both fully cooked pizza or the "take and bake" type, which allows patrons to finish baking at home at their leisure.
Eventually Blue Line want to get involved with the Mountain View community. But since its such a new location, they will initially focus on "making sure that within our four walls everything is running smoothly," Pace said.
Blue Line Pizza is open Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Happy hour, Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Half off appetizers, $2 off drafts and $1.50 Pabst Blue Ribbon.
