MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — A burglary suspect who had climbed onto the roof of a Mountain View resident's home late Saturday morning was quickly detained by officers, despite his attempts to evade apprehension, the police department reported.

Officers responded to reports at 11:30 a.m. of an attempted home burglary on the 100 block of Promethean Way. When officers arrived on the scene, the homeowner informed them that the suspect had left through the backyard after jumping down off of his roof. The resident, who had confronted the suspect in the backyard, said he became aware of the man's presence after he heard a loud noise coming from his roof.

Officers immediately began to search the area, and one of them spotted a man matching the suspect's description at the dead end of Central Avenue. Once taken into custody, the suspect, 27-year-old Jorge Hernandez of Palo Alto, was identified by the resident.
