Coroner Identifies Woman Killed in Accident on Skyline

The victim's son lives in Mountain View.

The San Mateo County Coroner's office identified the woman killed in a vehicle accident on Skyline Boulevard on Wednesday as Sarani Banerjee.

Banerjee, her husband Kalyan Banerjee and their son Shamik Banerjee traveled northbound on Skyline Road just south of Highway 84 at about 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 when they crashed, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Art Montiel.

The mother and father visited their son—a 31-year-old Mountain View resident—from Howrah, India.

For reasons that remain unclear, Shamik—who drove the car—lost control of his Toyota Camry and swerved into the southbound lane of traffic. He crashed head on with a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Camry overturned, landing on its roof.

Sarani, 49, died on the scene, according to CHP records. Kalyan, 61, was airlifted to Stanford Hospital where he's being treated for his injuries. Shamik suffered minor injuries.

The incident closed Skyline Boulevard for four hours, while law enforcement officials investigated the accident. Investigators said that alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the accident.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, Susan Michele Cozad, is from Nice, CA.
