Some young people inherit genetic mutations that can cause heart abnormalities. Oftentimes, the first sign of a heart problem is during a strenuous sporting event. But simple screening (blood pressure, heart rate, EKG) can catch heart problems early and help guide treatment.
This screening is designed to identify abnormal heart rhythms and heart muscle disease in young athletes in their teens and early 20s. (Minors must attend with a parent or guardian). The event is sponsored by the Heart & Vascular Institute at El Camino Hospital and will feature physicians specializing in clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
