MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Corina Gaytan barely got a chance to bond with her new dog Gemma when she slipped out of her harness and ran down the street in front of her Escalon Avenue home Saturday night.

She was last seen on Sunday near Corte Madera and Mary avenues but not recovered.

Gemma remains at large as of Thursday morning.

The small, tan-colored terrier-type canine got away on the first day Gaytan got her through the Kingsburg rescue center, Pawsitive Connections near Fresno.

"She must have gotten scared by something," the Mountain View woman said.

One concern is she doesn't know the neighborhood very well. She has a microchip, so Gaytan may be identified as the rightful owner.

"I really want to find her. I fell in love with her when I first saw her," Gaytan told Patch.

She and her husband have no children.

"She was going to be our baby," she said, with a sadness lingering in her tone.

Gayton said Gemma is a little skittish, so she is likely to run away if approached or chased. However, she does recognize her name, pronounced with a "j."

Anyone who sees her is advised to call Gaytan at 408-372-7146.
