Fourth of July DUI Arrests Down 50% in Santa Clara County
There were 34 DUI arrests in the county in the two day holiday period; last year, there were 81.

The Independence Day “Avoid the 13” Campaign yielded 34 DUI arrests in Santa Clara County Tuesday and Wednesday, as compared to 81 DUI arrests in 2011 on July 3 and 4.
There were a total of on Tuesday, and 23 arrests on Wednesday, said San Jose Srg. Jose Cardoza. There were no DUI deaths or traffic collisions overnight.
The Avoid the 13 Campaign -- which cracked down on alcohol and drug impaired driving -- was comprised of one sobriety checkpoint and seven special DUI saturation patrols, said Cardoza.
Local law enforcement officials will be conducting more anti-DUI efforts throughout the country and region in partnership with the National 18 Day campaign. They will stretch through Labor Day weekend.
As many people are taking off the two-day period after Independence Day, there will be extra DUI saturation patrols throughout the region Thursday and Friday, said Cardoza.
Below are the statistics on arrests made throughout the region Tuesday and Wednesday. Last year’s campaign lasted five days, while this year’s last two, said Cardoza.
