Mountain View Council Expected to OK $5M in Road Improvements

Funding for the project comes from employment-oriented social network service LinkedIn, which was founded in Mountain View.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA - The Mountain View City Council on Tuesday is expected to approve a $5.5 million project to improve state Highway 237 at Middlefield Road using funds from a city agreement with employment-oriented social network LinkedIn.

The project has been in the works since 2005 and would move the westbound Highway 237 on-ramp to protect pedestrians, prevent collisions and reduce traffic congestion.

LinkedIn, which was founded in Mountain View and now headquartered in Sunnyvale, agreed to an $11 million community benefits package in November 2018 for the project at 700 E. Middlefield Road, and the city now hopes to use $5.5 million for the environmental review and design of the Middlefield Road project.

If the project's approved, the city will pay the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority to carry out the review, design and further planning. These steps are planned for completion by March 2022.

The approval requires five "yes" votes from the seven-member City Council. The meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. Jan. 22 in the council chambers at 500 Castro St.
