Mountain View Rotary Awards $15,000 to Local Agencies

The Mountain View Rotary Club announces its 2013 community grant recipients who received an amount totaling $15,000 made possible through funds raised at the club’s annual Crab Feed in January.  

"We are thrilled to be able to provide this support to our community," said Jim Spangler, Community Grant Awards program chair this year. "Mountain View Rotary takes its commitment to service above self very seriously. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these critical life-changing organizations in our community."

The local grantees include:

  • Community Health Awareness Council, $2,600 to support two counselors on a school campus and a Teen Talk support group. 
  • Community Services Agency, $2600 in support of the agency’s efforts to ensure that seniors successfully transition from hospital to home.
  • Friends of Deer Hollow Farm, $500 to underwrite field trips in low-income schools in Mountain View.
  • Friends of Steven's Creek Trail, $500 to fund education and race advertising for the upcoming fundraising walk/run.
  • HOPE Services MV, $600 to update the agency’s emergency supplies.
  • Just Read, $2,500 to be used for one-on-one tutoring of 112 middle and high school students in the Mountain View area.
  • Living Classrooms, $1,200 to fund Whisman School’s second grade classroom garden for the 2013-14 school year.
  • Mountain View Police Officer Association, $2,000 to provide baskets of food and toys to hundreds of less fortunate families in Mountain View at Thanksgiving.
  • Peninsula Bridge, $500 for the organization’s middle school summer school program.
  • Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, $2000 to sponsor nine Mountain View students’ participation at the 5-day leadership conference this year.
