Mountain View Seeks Bay Area Artists For Public Art Project

The city's call for artists is open to residents of the 11 San Francisco Bay Area counties — with the application deadline approaching!

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA — The city of Mountain View is looking for Bay Area artists to beautify its streets. Through its Visual Arts Committee’s new pilot program called “Sidewalk Studio,” the city hopes to turn five blank utility boxes into new public art that will encourage civic pride, increase pedestrian traffic and deter graffiti, city spokeswoman Shonda Ranson said.

Ranson said the city's call for artists and/or artists' teams is open to residents of the 11 San Francisco Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma.

In order to be considered, interested artists must also be 18 or older and need to apply online by 11 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28. Information about the application process is posted at Mountainview.gov/sidewalkstudio.

The Visual Arts Committee plans on selecting five artists or teams from the applicants by March 14 and notifying those selected by March 21.

Then, by early May, residents and visitors can expect to see the new public art around town, Ranson said.
