Around 12:12 p.m., Mountain View police responded to the 600 block of Mariposa Avenue for reports of a domestic disturbance. When police arrived, the victim told police that her boyfriend, identified as Orlando Rivera, had come to her work in Los Altos and forced her at gunpoint to drive them both back to Mountain View.

Police say when the duo arrived back in Mountain View, they were approached by a tow truck driver. Rivera brandished a gun at the tow truck driver and made the man hand over his cell phone before he left the area on foot.

Mountain View Police officers responded and established a perimeter to search the area. Due to the close proximity to Mariano Castro Elementary School and Gabriela Mistral Elementary School, MVPD School Resource Officers immediately went to the school to secure the campus and assist with “shelter-in-place” procedures.
