We’re pleased to announce the debut of Bay Area Shakespeare Camp at Mountain View’s beautiful Pear Theatre, 1115 La Avenida Street. This session takes place June 10-21 and meets weekdays from 9am-3pm, with optional aftercare until 5:30. Shakespeare Players (ages 7-13) will perform in their own abridged version of one of Shakespeare’s classic comedies: As You Like It, The Tempest, or Playing the Fool (a collection of scenes featuring clowns, jesters, and comic figures from Shakespeare’s plays). Experience is welcome but not required to get into the act and have fun with your friends at Shakespeare Camp!

Professional theatre artists lead campers in a series of daily activities and exercises that provide training in:

  • Shakespeare's rich language
  • acting and improvisation
  • voice and movement techniques
  • stage combat
  • set and costume design, and more!

Utilizing a proven curriculum that’s been developed and refined over the past 27 years, Shakespeare campers learn how to understand Shakespeare and ‘speak the speech’ while gaining an appreciation for the wit and plot structure of the plays. On the final day, campers use their newly developed abilities in a performance presented to family and friends. All are invited to the celebratory post-show cast party as well.

Studies have shown that theatre education has the additional benefits of developing self-confidence (off-stage as well as on), inspiring creative thinking, enhancing concentration and problem solving capacities, and improving communication skills. Additionally, Shakespeare campers have fun in a supportive environment that encourages each camper to challenge them self and move onto the next rung of the performance ladder, no matter what background they bring to the camp.

Join us this summer and find out for yourself why nearly half of our Shakespeare Campers are returning from previous seasons and coming back for more Shakespeare! In addition to the Pear, there are also camps in Cupertino, San Jose, and Los Altos Hills (see dates and details or call for information 415-558-0888).
