Two Arrested at Saturday-Night DUI Checkpoint in Murrieta

Murrieta police stopped drivers on Jefferson Avenue, checking licenses and looking for drunken drivers.

One driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI and another for drug possession at a checkpoint on Jefferson Avenue Saturday night, according to Murrieta police.

The checkpoint just north of Guava Street began at 8:30 p.m. and wrapped up at 2:15 a.m. Of the 420 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 400 were screened by officers checking driverโ€™s licenses and searching for signs of impairment.

Officers directed 16 drivers to a secondary-inspection area, where four were cited for driving without a valid license and one cited for driving on a suspended license. A driver found with cocaine and marijuana was arrested, according to police.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
