A fire that began on a living room sofa forced a family from their Menifee home on Christmas Day.

MENIFEE, CA ? A Christmas day house fire displaced a family of five and their dog in Menifee, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 12:39 p.m. Monday in the 29000 block of Maritime Way.

Officials said the flames were contained to a sofa in the single-family residence. However, the two adults and three children were forced to leave the home due to damage, and the American Red Cross was requested to assist them.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
