Ethanac Fire Knocked Down on Sunday

Initial Attack Quickly Successful - Fire stopped at 15 acres

A "Wildland" fire broke out Sunday afternoon off of Route 74 in Unincorporated Lake Elsinore north of the 74 between Ethanac Rd and Spring St and just past the western Perris city line. Four other fires had occurred this week, two in Temecula and two in Winchester.

This one spread quickly from five acres when reported at 2:17 this afternoon to 15 acres at 2:58 when its advance was stopped as a result of the initial attack by the responders. It threatened several structures including a nearby home only some 50 yards from the fire's edge. A chicken coop was saved and was only some 20 yards from the perimeter. A large business on the nearby 74 was also spared.

Fifty Firefighters from eleven Engine Companies and two Truck Companies were on scene supported by two Overhead Personnel and dispatched Law Enforcement. By the time we could approach the fire and record with photos the fight was down to the final smoldering debris, trees and grasses.

The house had been saved and there was no "BBQ Chicken" today. A large business on the nearby 74 also escaped any damage other than temporary smoke and perhaps some ash.

Although by some standards this was a small and uneventful fire those responding did not know what they were to face and are owed our thanks for once again going to where we run from.
