Fire Near Winchester Scorches 20 Acres

HEMET, CA — Riverside County firefighters are working to fully contain a brush fire burning near Winchester. The fire was reported just before 1 a.m. at Warren and Old Mine roads.

The fire had a slow rate of spread, fire officials said. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the fire spread to approximately 20 acres within the first two hours, but as of 8:15 a.m. it had not grown and was 75 percent contained.

No evacuations were ordered and no injuries were reported.

There was no immediate word on how the blaze broke out.
