MURRIETA, CA โ€” The heat is on โ€” for a limited time โ€” at Miguelโ€™s Jr. restaurants, including in Murrieta and nearby, as the chain plans next week to launch its newest menu items, the Fiery Carnitas Taco and Fiery Habanero Hot Sauce. And for Inland Empire diners, who flinchlessly face and embrace all things spicy, there is a contest.

The family-owned, Mexican establishment invites brave souls to post to social media winning photos or videos of themselves tasting the taco or sauce. Seven then will be selected and rewarded with a $20 gift card and a free Fiery Carnitas Taco Combo, which is two tacos, refried beans, Spanish rice and a drink.

The new "Fiery" menu hits all Miguel's Jr. eateries Aug. 5, and the contest will run from that date through Sept. 22. The social-media posts can be made to Facebook or Instagram, using hashtag #MiguelsFieryCarnitas.

The house-made, Fiery Habanero Hot Sauce, also limited-edition, ranks hottest among Miguel Jr.'s condiment line-up and gets its heat from habaneros and garlic, the restaurant said.

With 20 Miguel's Jr. eateries in Southern California, the chain is the quick-service, spin-off of the full service Miguelโ€™s Restaurants, founded in Corona in 1973 by Mike and Mary Vasquez. The award-winning, homestyle Mexican cuisine is inspired by co-founder and Chief Recipe Officer Mary's childhood in Central Mexico.
