Inmate Dies Following Medical Emergency In Murrieta Cell

MURRIETA, CA — An inmate at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta suffered a medical emergency in his cell and later died, authorities said Wednesday.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, was found by correctional deputies about 11:50 p.m. Monday, according to the Riverside County sheriff's Capt. David Holm.

Holm said deputies initiated CPR on the inmate, who was later transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Despite life-saving measures by medical staff, the inmate was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Additional information regarding the nature of the medical condition was not provided.

Officials said there were no indications of foul play, and that the inmate was housed alone. His name was being withheld pending notification of family members.
