Menifee Police Seek Leads After Woman Found Dead

MENIFEE, CA — A 68-year-old woman discovered dead on a Menifee roadside was apparently not a victim of foul play, but police Thursday were asking anyone who might know how she ended up where she did and why to come forward.

The remains of Sandra Hickam of Menifee were located shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Chambers Avenue and Menifee Road, according to Menifee police Lt. Denise Keith.

Passers-by spotted the body near the opening of a storm channel and called 911. Patrol officers reached the location moments later and summoned coroner's officials, who could find "no signs of foul play," Keith said.

"Detectives received information that community members in the area ... may have had contact with Ms. Hickam while she was walking," the lieutenant said.

She said investigators are still attempting to piece together the period immediately preceding the woman's death, and anyone with information was asked to contact them.

An autopsy was pending to identify the exact cause of death.
