Mosquito-Control Application Scheduled for Murrieta
The application is in response to the high number of mosquitos trapped in an area of Murrieta.

MURRIETA, CA -- Due to the high number of mosquitos trapped in an area of Murrieta, the Riverside County Vector Control Program announced Monday it has scheduled ultra-low volume ground applications using truck-mounted sprayers to reduce the number of adult mosquitos.
The treatment will occur in a portion of the area between Ivy Street and Manista Way, northeast of New Clay Street.
The application of EPA-approved mosquito control product Zenivex (EPA Reg No 2724-807) is scheduled for Wednesday (8/31) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., when mosquitos are most active.

All products used are registered by the Environmental Protection Agency for the purpose of controlling mosquitos and protecting public health.
Although the products pose very low to no risk, some people may prefer to avoid exposure. To minimize exposure, residents and pets should remain indoors and keep windows closed during and for 15 minutes following ground application.

The amount of material sprayed is three ounces per acre, which ensures that humans, animals and crops are safe. Signs were posted Friday along the route informing residents of the control efforts.
In addition, the vector control staff is intensifying mosquito surveillance, searching out breeding sites and conducting larval control where appropriate.
Officials have also offered the following recommendations:
โข Protect against mosquito bites by using insect repellent
โข Be aware of peak mosquito hours. Dawn and dusk are peak biting times for many mosquitos. Consider rescheduling outdoor activities during that time
โข Clothing can help reduce mosquito bites. Wear long-sleeves, long pants, and socks when outdoors to help keep mosquitos away from skin.
โข Mosquito-proof your home. Drain standing water because mosquitos lay their eggs in standing water and limit the number of places for mosquitos to breed by draining/discarding items that hold water. Check rain gutters and drains. Empty unused flowerpots and wading pools. Change water in birdbaths and pet bowls at least weekly.
โข Keep mosquitos outside by having tightly fitting screens on all windows and doors.
