Murrieta Girl Remains on Life Support; More Benefit Events Planned

More benefit events are planned on behalf of a 15-year-old Murrieta girl who remains hospitalized in a coma after suffering critical injuries in a skateboarding accident. 

Madison "Maddi" Olson fell Jan. 5 while riding down a hill in San Clemente. Her skull was fractured, which required emergency brain surgery. As of Monday, her mother, Autumn Olson, wrote that doctors recommend keeping Maddi on life support for the time being.

"She's not ready. The swelling hasn't gone down enough to make changes," according to the post on the Facebook page, "Prayers 4 Maddi."

An initial fund-raising event was held Sunday at The Rogue Restaurant & Speakeasy in Murrieta, a restaurant that her parents recently opened. 

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, The Mill Restaurant will donate 15 percent of its sales to help the Olson family with medical expenses. Maddi's older sister, Nicole, works at the restaurant.

Then from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, Chick-fil-A of Murrieta will donate 20 percent of its proceeds for the cause in honor of Maddi’s 16th birthday.

And when students of the Murrieta Valley Unified School District return to school Tuesday following winter break, students at Murrieta Valley High School where Maddi is a sophomore, are asked to wear blue, her favorite color.

These are just a few examples of the continued community support and well wishes for Maddi, who played soccer at the high school and locally at the club level.

She is hospitalized at Children's Hospital of Orange County at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.
