Murrieta Hopes to Collect Debts Through State Program

The California Franchise Tax Board Interagency Intercept Collections program will allow the city of Murrieta to collect outstanding police and code enforcement fines.

A program sponsored by the state will allow Murrieta to collect delinquent debts unpaid by scofflaws, it was announced today.

The state Franchise Tax Board Interagency Intercept Collections program will take money from any refunds due and first divert it to the city of Murrieta for unpaid tickets or fines, officials said.

Under the ICC program, cities can submit to the state debts for property taxes, bail amounts, parking tickets, court-ordered payments, fines or other such debts for payment with tax refunds, officials said.

Residents who are delinquent on city fines, yet expect sizable amounts in tax refunds will be targeted, officials said.

Those residents whose money is taken for debts will be notified by the agencies involved, officials said.
