Old Town Murrieta Post Office Could Get Special Name
If passed, a U.S. House bill would designate the post office as the "Riverside County Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Memorial Post Office."

MURRIETA, CA โ The little brick post office in Old Town Murrieta could get a new name. Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Corona) โ whose 42nd Congressional District includes much of Southwest Riverside County โ has introduced legislation, H.R. 797, to name the post office at 24930 Washington Ave. in honor of the Riverside County veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
If passed, the bill would designate the post office as the โRiverside County Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Memorial Post Office.โ
โRiverside County veterans proudly served our nation and significantly contributed to our successful missions throughout the Iraq and Afghanistan wars,โ Calvert said. โNaming this facility in honor of our veterans is a small token of our appreciation for their tremendous bravery, patriotism and dedication to causes greater than their own. Our region has a long history of supporting our military and veterans. Taking this action is yet another way of honoring the service of these exemplary Americans.โ

If the post office is renamed, the new moniker would complement the "Active Duty Military Banner Program" in Murrieta that allows the community to honor and pay tribute to current, active-duty military service personnel. Washington Avenue in Old Town Murrieta is adorned with the banners. Read more about the banner program here.
The post office opened in 1985 and is a short distance from the original post office building that began serving the community in 1940 at 24861 Washington Ave. The old structure still stands today and now houses Empire Design Group.
