Paraglider Pilot Killed in Crash Identified

The man died Tuesday after crashing in the San Jacinto area.

The man killed when the paraglider he was piloting slammed into the side of mountain near San Jacinto has been identified as a 38- year-old Los Angeles resident.

David Pearson suffered fatal injuries on Tuesdayย when he flew into steep terrain in the 200 block of Soboba Road, according to Riverside County sheriffโ€™s officials.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation. Paragliders are non-motorized, relying on air currents to stay aloft.

Coronerโ€™s officials said Pearson was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after the 10 a.m. crash on the mountainside. Emergency responders had to be airlifted to the location by helicopter.

Authorities did not say where the victim had begun his flight.
