Teens Sought For Library Advisory Council

Future plans include a Library newsletter with teen book reviews and a teen book club.

The Murrieta Public Library is seeking teens who wish to create a teen-friendly library by participating in the Murrieta Young Adult Advisory Council (MYAAC).

"The Murrieta Public Library constantly strives to meet the informational needs of the community through resources, services and programs. What better way to accomplish this goal than to offer community individuals an opportunity to actively participate in Library materials selection, program development and program implementation," said Laura Davis, adult and young adult services librarian.

MYAAC consists of teens in grades nine through 12 who assist in the selection of young adult resources such as books, CDs, DVDs and websites, help plan young adult programming and events and have fun working with other teens throughout the process, Davis said in a news release.

โ€œMYAAC was formed four years ago, and in addition to assisting the Library and meeting other teens, the Council is a great opportunity to sharpen teamwork and leadership skills, provide a voice for teens on a community level, plus earn community credit for high school and put the experience on a college application or job resume! Many of our most popular programs, such as the Laser Art Show, are the direct result of the Councilโ€™s input," Davis said.

Presently the Council is planning and implementing ways to enhance the Young Adult area and make it more โ€œteen-friendly.โ€ Future plans include a Library newsletter with teen book reviews and a teen book club.
