Stand Up for Justice and the NAACP Branch 1034 Lake Elsinore/Southwest Riverside County are inviting the public to a free celebration in honor of Juneteenth, a historical event in the Black Community. They have partnered with the City of Lake Elsinore, the Diamond Stadium, the Lake Elsinore Chamber of Commerce and several local businesses. Event organizers have been excitedly planning for a safe, socially distanced event at The Diamond Stadium on Friday, June 18 from 5:30-9:30pm.

Dr. Quinlan Strong serves as the Education Chair for the local NAACP Branch and also works closely with the Stand Up for Justice organization. She declares that the intention of the organizers is “to bring a free celebration on June 18th to commemorate this Historical Event not only for the African Diaspora, but for everyone in Riverside County. Our event remembers this day in History providing the public an opportunity to learn about the Historical significance of the Event and to celebrate freedom.”

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. The celebration of June 19th was coined “Juneteenth” and grew with more participation from descendants. Juneteenth today celebrates African-American freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures.
