Water District Wins Budget Award

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that Rancho California Water District (RCWD) received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2014-2015 budget. RCWD’s Board of Directors accepted the award at the November 13, 2014 Board meeting.

The award represents a significant achievement reflecting the commitment of the Board of Directors and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, RCWD had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines assess how well the budget serves as a: policy document, financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. The budget had to be rated proficient in all four categories in order to receive the award.

Stephen Corona, RCWD Board President commended staff for the time and effort that goes into developing a budget. “Staff needs to be congratulated for their continued hard work.” Senior Vice President, John Hoagland commented, “Receiving this award is a great accomplishment by staff who continue to set the bar high every year.”

RCWD along with the other award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
