Alaina Housley Memorial Service Planned In Napa

The 18-year-old Napa native tragically taken in the mass shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill will be remembered in a service this weekend.

NAPA, CA — Friends, family and community members are planning to gather Sunday to remember Alaina Housley in a memorial service at Vintage High School. Tragically, the 18-year-old who grew up in Napa and was a 2018 graduate of the school, was one of 12 people fatally struck in a mass shooting Nov. 7 at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks.

The life of Housley, who was in Southern California to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, will be celebrated in a service set to begin at noon, Sunday, Nov. 18 in the gymnasium of Vintage High, 1375 Trower Ave., Napa, according to multiple sources.

"Alaina and 11 others lost their lives to senseless violence in ... [the] shooting at the Borderline Bar, while wanting to dance," wrote her father, Arik Housley, on GoFundMe.

As of Thursday, more than $60,000 had been raised through two GoFundMe campaigns set up in memory of Alaina. Donors are now being asked to visit Alainasvoice.org.

"Alaina Maria Housley was born July 27, 2000," according to the website. "She lived, laughed, loved, read, smiled and sang. She had a kind heart, a gentle soul and was so giving. She coached children, to serve veterans and helped everywhere ... While her body is gone, her voice will live on."

Those attending this weekend's memorial service are encouraged to wear brightly colored clothing in her honor.

The celebration of life follows a vigil held Nov. 8 at the high school to remember Alaina's life and show her family the community's love and support.

"Her family, parents Hannah and Arik and brother Alex, are well loved and connected to many of us," Napa Valley Unified School District Superintendent Rosanna Mucetti said last week as news of Alaina's tragic passing reached students and the greater community.

"There are no words that are sufficient at a time like this, but we remain a strong, caring community who will join together to enfold the Housleys and their friends with support," Mucetti said.
