Bar Shooting Victim Alaina Housley Remembered In Packed Service

The Thousand Oaks shooting victim from Napa "laughed, loved, read, smiled and sang. She had a kind heart, a gentle soul and was so giving."

NAPA, CA — A crowd of over 1,000 people— many wearing blue T-shirts, others wearing ribbons — filled the gymnasium Sunday of Vintage High School to celebrate the life of one of their own who was taken too soon. Alaina Housley, 18, walked the halls of the school until she graduated last spring, and with a bright future ahead of her, went to Southern California to attend Pepperdine University. But hers and the lives of 11 other victims would unexpectedly end the night of Nov. 7 when a gunman stormed into Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, shooting down students who were gathered for a popular "college night" event.

Those who spoke during the memorial service included her parents, Arik and Hannah Housley, who also word blue T-shirts with the word "Enough." Alex, her younger brother, bravely spoke from a podium set up for the celebration of life service.

Former classmates, teachers and the school's principal all shared fond memories of Alaina.

"From Dad and Mom: Alaina Maria Housley was born July 27,2000-she died on November 7, 2018. She, along with 11 other people, had her life taken in a senseless act of violence. Alaina lived, laughed, loved, read, smiled and sang. She had a kind heart, a gentle soul and was so giving. She coached children, volunteered to serve veterans and helped so many.We must learn to be present, and to enjoy our loved ones. Be kind to one another. Respect our differences. Maybe, if we are all a little bit more supportive of one another, in Alaina's name, we can save one more life, stop one more shooting, and help one more person. We can make this world a better place. While her body is gone, her voice will live on. Voice of Song, Voice of Strength, Voice of Spirit, Voice of CHANGE. alainasvoice.org #alanasvoice."
