Calistoga COVID Test Site Closes Amid Heat, Cooling Center Opens

LHI/OptumServe closed its COVID-19 testing site effective immediately because of the heat wave, while the cooling center opened at noon.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — As a coronavirus test site shut down Wednesday in Calistoga because of the heat, the city of Calistoga announced a cooling center would open.

The LHI/OptumServe COVID-19 closed its test site effective immediately and was reaching out to clients with scheduled appointments to advise them of the change and expected duration of the closure, the county of Napa said around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

County officials did not say when it expected the Calistoga test site to reopen, but Calistoga is under a heat advisory through Friday. The high temperatures in Calistoga are forecast to reach 97 on Wednesday, 103 on Thursday, and 101 on Friday.

The cooling center is open noon-9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 16-18, at the Calistoga Public Works Facility at 414 Washington St.

Face coverings and distancing requirements are in effect for unvaccinated people, while face coverings are not required for those who are vaccinated. Space is limited and face masks are available for people who are not vaccinated against the virus.

For Calistogans whose testing appointments were canceled or who need to get tested within the next few days, a list of open COVID-19 testing sites is posted on the county of Napa website.
