Coroner IDs Man, 27, Killed In Napa Valley Crash

Authorities identified a 27-year-old man who died Thursday when his car went off a private driveway and into an irrigation pond in Napa.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died Thursday morning when a car he was in went off a private driveway and into an irrigation pond as Chancellor Steven Goforth, 30, of Paso Robles.

Peter Olney, 27, of Napa, also was in the vehicle but managed to get out, California Highway Patrol Officer Marc Renspurger said. The crash happened near the Olney Family Vineyard, Cave and Winery at 2253 Dry Creek Road in Napa. It's not clear who was driving, Renspurger said.

The Toyota was traveling east on Creek Road around 3:45 a.m. when it left the driveway, went down an embankment and into the pond, Renspurger said.

The Toyota became fully submerged and emergency responders removed Goforth from the vehicle. Neither Goforth nor Olney was wearing a seatbelt, the CHP said.

Goforth was pronounced dead at 4:52 a.m., the Napa Sheriff's Office said. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the fatal crash, the CHP said.
